On Thursday, December 7, 2014; the Rindge Avenue Upper Campus and Peabody School held their second annual Turkey Trot race -- a race that has been happening for over thirty years at the site of these two schools! With full sun and temperatures in the high-40s, the weather was just right for running and cheering.
The day kicked off with the Fun-Run, a half-mile run that included students and faculty from both schools. Following the Fun-Run, competitive races were held for students in fourth through eighth grade. There were grade-level girl and boy races and places were awarded to all competitors. At the completion of the competitive races, students and faculty from both schools gathered in the Peabody School gymnasium for an awards ceremony and raffle giveaway. Students who placed in the top three of their particular race received trophies for their efforts.
Meanwhile, all Fun-Run and competitive racers were entered into a raffle giveaway that included food from the Fitzgerald Community School (thank you Carolyn!) and over thirty gift certificates graciously donated by our friends at Pemberton Market and Marathon Sports. By lunchtime, all trophies and prizes had been dispersed and it was clear, once again, that events such as this always remind and reinforce our schools shared sense of community, gratitude and pride.
