On Wednesday, April 12th, NASA Astronaut Dr. Jeff Hoffman from the MIT Aero-Astro Department visited our 7th graders.
“What’s an average day look like on the International Space Station?”
“How do you sleep in space?”
“What was the most challenging thing you faced”
Students asked these questions and more and got to hear from Dr. Hoffman about his personal experiences in space!
Leading up to his visit, students had been working on proposals for experiments that MIT scientists could do in Zero-Gravity. Experiments were well thought out and full of very creative science! Out of the 40 proposals, four were chosen to be presented to Dr. Hoffman based on the following criteria: Scientific merit; feasibility; completeness; and expected results.
The top 4 experiments were (in no special order):
- Rogue Water
- How High Can an Elephant Fly
- Magnetic Blob
- Glitter Bomb
Dr. Hoffman & MIT scientists will select a final experiment in the second week of May to send on the Zero G flight!
Please join us in celebrating all our 7th graders who worked hard on creating creative proposals! We encourage you to ask your students about their experiments!
